Sri Lanka is now visa-free for Indian passport holders. This initiative means seamless travel to Sri Lanka. Before this, Indians travelling to Sri Lanka were required to travel with an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) document. Travellers were required to present this document at the time of arrival. This Electronic Travel Authorisation document was valid for 30 days and would cost the travellers INR 2080.
Now is the best time to plan a trip to Sri Lanka, not only because this time of the year is most pleasant, but also because Sri Lanka is now visa-free for Indian passport holders. Recently, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Tourism announced that travellers from seven countries – India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand can now have a visa-free entry to Sri Lanka. This initiative is a pilot project and will be on till March 31, 2024.
