NPCI expands UPI payments to UAE

NPCI International Payments Ltd, in collaboration with Network International, a leading enabler of digital commerce across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, has introduced QR code-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments via Network’s point-of-sale terminals in the UAE.

This initiative facilitates seamless and secure transactions for Indian tourists and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) within Network International’s extensive merchant network in the UAE, according to an NPCI International statement.

Network International supports over 200,000 POS terminals across more than 60,000 merchants in various sectors including retail, hospitality, transport, and supermarkets.

The rollout of UPI acceptance will occur progressively, covering a diverse array of establishments from retail stores and dining outlets to tourist and leisure attractions like Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates.

By enabling UPI acceptance through its POS terminals, Network International provides a QR-based, safe, and secure method for cross-border payments.

This advancement allows Indian tourists and NRIs with Indian bank accounts to use UPI for payments across Network’s POS terminals in the UAE.
