Exciting Opportunity: Australia’s Work and Holiday Visa for Indians

Travel enthusiasts with a passion for learning have an exciting reason to celebrate! Australia has introduced a work and holiday visa specifically for Indian nationals. Eligible applicants are chosen through a ballot system, with a registration fee of $25, often referred to as a lottery visa due to its element of chance. If selected, the visa can be obtained for a fee of $650. The application process is currently open and will close on October 30, with 1,000 visas available each year.

This visa allows for multiple entries, enabling holders to travel in and out of Australia freely. Valid for one year, it can be extended for an additional year, allowing participants to stay in Australia for up to three years. In addition to exploring the country, visa holders can also study for up to four months. Those who already possess a work and holiday visa can apply for a second one.

Age Limit

The work and holiday visa is available to individuals aged 18 to 30. However, applicants from Canada, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, and the United Kingdom can apply up to the age of 35.

Historical Background

Australia first introduced the work and holiday visa in January 1975 for applicants from just three countries: Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Initially, 2,000 visas were granted each year. Today, applications are accepted from 47 countries.

Visa Subclasses

The work and holiday visas fall into two subclasses: 417 and 462.

  • Subclass 417 is for individuals from 19 countries, including Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, and the UK.
  • Subclass 462 is for applicants from 28 countries, including Argentina, Brazil, China, India, and the United States.
