Winter in the Kashmir Valley starts from October to February, with temperatures often falling below freezing point. Kashmir’s winter season is known as Chillai Kalan or Chillia Kalan, a local name given to 40 day period of harsh winter in Kashmir. Kashmir becomes a treasure trove of mesmerising vistas and pristine snowfall, which covers the entire region in thick blankets which is brathtaking sight to watch.

1. Skiing in the glittery snow of Gulmarg

2. Shikara ride at Dal Lake
A Shikhara is a traditional light rowing boat which is mostly seen on the pristine Dal Lake. It is one of the most incredible and relaxing aspects of a holiday in Kashmir. A usual shikara seats six people, with the driver paddling at the rear.
3. Snow Trekking
Kashmir-Snow-Trek expedition is an opportunity for the hikers and nature lovers to explore Kashmir hiking in winter. On the Naranag-Trunkhol-Gangabal, the snow depth ranges from 1 foot in Naranag to 3 feet at Trunkhol.
